The City of Cambridge today issued amendments to its emergency order requiring that face coverings be worn in all public places, businesses, and common areas of residential buildings with two or more dwelling units. The order goes into effect at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020.

This order is meant to keep people safe, protect community rights, and clarify how federal immigration enforcement can and cannot interact with City spaces.

In a continued collective effort to halt the spread of COVID-19, the City today issued a temporary emergency order that restricts customers at essential retail establishments from using reusable bags after purchasing retail products.

All visitors and Massachusetts residents returning home, including students returning to campuses for fall semester, must fill out a “Massachusetts Travel Form” and quarantine for 14 days unless they are coming from a COVID-19 lower risk state or can produce a negative COVID-19 test result administered no more than 72 hours prior to arriving in Massachusetts. Effective Friday, August 7, Rhode Island is no longer listed as a lower-risk state.

The City of Cambridge announced that it has rescinded its Amended Temporary Emergency Construction Order issued on June 22, 2020. Effective May 10, 2021, all construction in the city shall comply with the City of Cambridge Face Coverings Order, all applicable Commonwealth Mandatory Safety Standards for Workplaces, and the protocols for Sectors Not Otherwise Addressed.

On March 31, Governor Baker extended the stay-at-home advisory and non-essential business closure that was set to expire on April 7 until May 4, the same date that schools are to remain closed until. The 10-person limit on gatherings in the state has been extended as well, following a similar extension by the federal government.
