July is Disability Pride Month! This month also marks the 35th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Learn how the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) is honoring this month and milestone.
Upgrades at the Central Square Library
Update the interior of the Central Square Library. The upgrade will include new furniture that is more modern and comfortable, a new technology table that allows for easy laptop hook-up, and scanners, printers, and other technology.
Taylor Square Fire Station Improvement Project
Beginning Spring 2019 and lasting for approximately 12 months, several improvements will be taking place at the Taylor Square Fire Station. Work will be taking place on the interior and exterior of the building. See below for project updates, timeline and additional info.
Gold Star Pool
Gold Star Pool, located at 123 Berkshire Street, is open every summer for Cambridge residents to enjoy open swim. The facility has two ADA-compliant pools: a Beginner Pool (maximum depth of 3-6 ft.) and a Lap Pool.

Get to know Kate Thurman, Deputy Director of the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) and Assistant Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator for the City of Cambridge. In her role, Kate serves as an invaluable resource both for members of the disability community who are looking for guidance and referrals to services as well as for residents, business owners, and City employees striving to create a culture of accessibility and inclusion.
Open our Doors
Let’s make our schools, libraries, and public buildings more accessible for all by adding automatic door openers to entries that are wheelchair accessible but lack this feature. The City will work with the Disabilities Commission to prioritize locations.
Small Business Assistance
Small businesses are an important part of Cambridge’s diverse and thriving economy. To support and promote current small business owners and aspiring local entrepreneurs, the Community Development Department’s economic development division offers a variety of programs, workshops, grants, and resources.
