In this FREE workshop, teens from the Cambridge Community Art Center will teach you how to properly thread a machine, sew a straight stitch, hem and unfinished edge, and secure your stitches. Practice by sewing colorful shapes onto small flags. Following the workshop, the flags will be made into a banner and displayed at the Library. No experience necessary. If you are a creative brick-and-mortar business, you can receive up to $15,000 in reimbursement for payroll, commercial rent/mortgage, equipment, or other costs. Artists and creatives with home-based businesses can receive up to $7,500 for payroll or operating/equipment costs.

The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) offers summer camps and programs to Cambridge children and youth currently in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Activities include art, sports, swimming, field trips, and more. All DHSP summer camps and programs are filled through a lottery process. The deadline to apply to the 2025 DHSP Summer Lottery application is Monday, March 3.

The Baker-Polito Administration announced that the Commonwealth is on track to meet the goal of vaccinating 4.1 million residents by the first week of June and all remaining COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted effective May 29. The Commonwealth’s face covering order will also be rescinded on May 29.

The Department of Public Works has announced changes to its sewer connection fees that will take effect on March 1, 2025. A sewer connection fee is a one-time charge assessed as part of a building permit, based on the number of plumbing fixtures that connect to the sewer.

The Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP) will provide free preschool to Cambridge 4-year-olds and some 3-year-olds beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. CPP offers families a streamlined, single application process where they can apply to a variety of high-quality, Cambridge-based preschool programs.

Local arts and cultural organizations, community groups, and other Cambridge-based nonprofit organizations are invited to table at the 2024 Cambridge Arts River Festival on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nonprofits can participate for free.
