The City of Cambridge 911 Clinician is a unique public safety position, as they work directly inside the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) alongside Emergency Telecommunications Dispatchers (ETD). The 911 Clinician may be utilized by dispatchers during emergencies for purposes of crisis intervention/de-escalation or to support callers through vulnerable moments before first responders arrive on-scene when appropriate. A large part of the 911 Clinician’s role is also following up with and providing community members connections to mental health and corresponding services by making referrals, providing resources, facilitating screenings, offering support and advocacy, and short-term case management.

The City of Cambridge is embarking on a citywide comprehensive planning process to create a shared vision for the city and its future. Walk-in access by the public is available Monday through Friday during regular City business hours (Monday, 8:30am-8pm, Tuesday-Thursday, 8:30am-5pm, and Friday, 8:30am-12pm), and in-person public appointments continue to be offered by many departments.

The Multilingual Helpline is a public-facing phone number for interpretation services. Any community member can call 617-865-2273 for free interpretation to access information about resources and services that the City of Cambridge provides. The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) is aware of and actively investigating an incident that occurred during a protest in Harvard Sq. on Sunday, August 10th. The incident, which is depicted in a widely circulated social media video, shows a motorist brandishing an axe during an altercation with protesters.

The City of Cambridge announced that it is extending its successful program for feeding homeless residents with meals provided by local food establishments through October 3, 2021. In March 2020, the City launched an innovative project to contract with local restaurants to provide food to the City’s homeless community during the COVID-19 public health crisis.
