I am so saddened by yesterday’s report of the brutal attack and murder of eight individuals, including six women of Asian descent, near Atlanta, GA, and stand in solidarity with my fellow Asian Americans.
Mayor Siddiqui’s Office and the City of Cambridge have displayed 121 white flags on City Hall lawn to mark the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the Cambridge community. The flag memorial will be displayed from Sunday, March 14, 2021 through Saturday, March 20, 2021.
Beginning March 15, 2021, the City of Cambridge will display a commemorative quilt at the Main Cambridge Library made from over 50,000 masks stitched together by local stitch lounge, Gather Here, and Boston Area Mask Initiative (BAMI).
After a successful pilot of the 2020 Local Parks Program last fall, the Office of Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, local nonprofit Elevate Youth, and the Cambridge Housing Authority’s Work Force Youth Program have expanded their partnership to include MIT’s Office of Government and Community Relations for the 2021 Local Parks Program beginning this spring.
The Office of Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui is partnering with the Vice-Mayor Alanna Mallon, Cambridge City Council, CASPAR & Bay Cove, Cambridge Police Department, and CambridgeSide to collect and donate 2,500 wool socks to homeless residents for its 4th Annual “Warm Hearts, Warm Feet Sock Drive.”
Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, the Cambridge Public Health Department, and the Cambridge Food Heroes Committee awarded the 2020 Cambridge Food Hero Awards to community members, businesses and organizations who have worked to reduce hunger, increase access to good food, support local farms and so much more.
The Office of Mayor Siddiqui and the Cambridge Public Schools team, led by Lyndsay Pinkus Brown, Chief Strategy Officer, and Robin Harris, Director of Family Engagement, organized and hosted a total of eight Family Resource Fairs throughout Cambridge between August 22, 2020 - November 14, 2020
Yesterday, I was made aware that Urban Hearth on Massachusetts Avenue was vandalized. This vandalism goes deeper than just property damage. I believe it was rooted in hate. We condemn, in the strongest language possible, the racist vandalism of the mural painted at Urban Hearth.
