The Mayor’s Office is open during normal City business hours. You can walk in or call us at 617‑349‑4321.

Food Security

 The Cambridge Food Resource Guide is a guide available in multiple languages with information about food pantries, food resources, and other programs available in Cambridge and beyond. 

Project Bread

is a Massachusetts nonprofit that connects people and communities to reliable food sources and advocates for policies that address hunger. They can also help you determine which benefits you may be eligible for and connect you with service providers who can best support your needs.



Immigration and Legal Services 

Have questions about your immigration status? The Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship partners with DeNovo to host free virtual monthly Immigration Legal Clinics. CIRC also has additional services related to immigration and can assist with connecting you with services. Visit their website at Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship for more information.

Red Cards / Tarjetas Rojas - ILRC can be used as a quick reference to see what your rights are. All people in the US regardless of immigration status have certain rights according to the Constitution. These cards can be used as a resource to remind you what your rights are and how to exercise them. For specific questions, please speak with a lawyer. 

If you are interested in speaking with a lawyer, take a look at one of the nonprofits below who can connect you with pro-bono legal help. 

  • De Novo is able to assist with issues related to immigration as well as housing and homelessness prevention, family law, and disability benefits

  • Greater Boston Legal Services is able to provide legal assistance to clients dealing with civil matters. Examples of this are employment law, family law, housing, immigration, and disability & social security. To read further about all the areas of law they practice please visit their website. They are unable to assist with criminal cases,

  • Project Citizenship provides free legal assistance to individuals interested in applying for US citizenship

  • Harvard Legal Aid Bureau is a group of student attorneys who can help with issues related to housing, family, and wage & hour law. 

  • Boston Bar Lawyer Referral program can also help connect you with a low-cost attorney based on the case. There is no cost to request a referral, but all fees after that should be discussed with your attorney.

 


Health

Cambridge is home to many hospitals and clinics. 

  • If you or a loved one are having an emergency, please call 911.

  • For behavioral health needs, the CHA Behavioral Health Urgent Care is available regardless of immigration or insurance status. They are available 24 hours for crisis services at 833-222-2030 and are available in person M - F: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm, Sa - Su: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. 

  • High school students are able to receive healthcare at the CHA Cambridge Teen Health Center. Please call 617-665-1548 to schedule an appointment, or if you are a high school clinic you can walk in during lunch to schedule an appointment. 

  • Looking for tips on Raising Healthy Children in Cambridge?

    • Take a look at the Raising Healthy Children in Cambridge Handbook, created by the Cambridge Healthy Children Task Force (HCTF). The HCTF is a community coalition made up of parents and professionals who work with children and families in Cambridge. The HCTF was organized in 1990 to promote the health of children in Cambridge. This booklet brings together the HCTF member’s expertise along with national guidelines and research.

 


Employment and Economic Stability

Looking for a job at the City of Cambridge? Browse the Cambridge Career Center website for resources, policies, and job listings within the city.  


Many of the City’s workforce programs are housed by the Department of Health and Human Services which has programs for all ages. For a more detailed description of every program, visit the Office of Workforce Development website. 

  • Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program - a paid 6 week summer job program for high school students 

  • The Community Learning Center has 15+ services which can help you further your education or find a job. There is something for everyone, and services are free to Cambridge Residents. Some highlighted programs are their Early Childhood Educator Training and their Certified Nurse Assistant Training. 

  • If you are between the ages of 18-35 the Cambridge Works program is a 3-month paid temporary job placement program. The program has cycles every year, and the application can be found on their website

  • The Green Jobs sector is growing! Meet with the Green Jobs Specialist if you are a Cambridge resident above the age of 14 and are interested in learning what a green job would look like for you.


Outside of the city, there are many organizations dedicated to employment support and economic stability.
