THE MEETING BELOW HAVE BEEN POSTPONED, AS DPW CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON MAJOR SNOW REMOVAL OPERATIONS AROUND THE CITY OF CAMBRIDGE. ONCE A NEW DATE HAS BEEN SELECTED, IT WILL BE POSTED ON THE CITY'S CALENDAR AND DISTRIBUTED TO RESIDENTS IN THE AREA.

During the months of October 2014 and November 2014, the City of Cambridge launched an online survey, for residents to provide feedback on the fencing proposal for the playground inside of Raymond Park. Community input is extremely important to us, which is why we were grateful for the 350+ responses we received. The responses revealed to us a great deal of information, including how the community utilizes Raymond Park, and whether they favor the installation of a fence or not and if a fence were to be installed where that fence should be located. After gathering and analyzing all of the responses, and given that there was a sizable majority of those voting who were not in favor of the fence being installed, we have decided not to install any additional fencing around the playground at this time, thus leaving it in its present condition.

In our October 2014 communication, we had promised the community a public meeting to discuss the survey results. On Wednesday, February 4, we would like to invite you to join us at 6:30pm in the Graham & Park School auditorium (access from Walker Street) to discuss the results. If you would like to view the results prior to the community meeting, please log on to CambridgeMA.Gov/RaymondParkSurvey.

Background
The City of Cambridge received requests from neighbors to install a fence around the playground to separate it from the rest of the park to ensure a safer and cleaner environment for children to play. The fence proposed was a 4 foot ornamental fence (similar to the existing fence around a portion of the playground) and would ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for dogs and their owners. Raymond Park is designated as a shared use area which means that dogs are allowed off leash in the open grassy areas between 6am and 9am. On occasions some dogs have run into the playground while children were playing. On this basis the City felt that it was important to share the conceptual designs with the community and obtain feedback .
