General Business

  • Discussion of Opportunities and Challenges to Pedestrianization in Harvard Square

Staff from the City of Cambridge will provide updates to the Committee on efforts to activate and pedestrianize Harvard Square, while also working with the Committee to identify potential ideas for analysis and discussion with the broader Cambridge community. Staff from the City of Somerville and Boston have also been invited to present to the Committee. The intention of the discussion is to share best practices, learn from the ongoing work of other communities, and to understand current conditions and limitations. Included in material for the Committee’s review is an October 2020 report (CMA 2020 #231) submitted to the City Council detailing possible next steps in this discussion and a recommendation to consult with the Harvard Square Advisory Committee.
