    • The Uncompromising Political Career of Alice K. Wolf

      On Display August 14 - September 10 Lobby & Second Floor, Main Library Alice K. Wolf represented the city of Cambridge on the School Committee, City Council, as Mayor, and as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Her 40-year career as a public servant was a testament to progressive ideals and equity and fairness in government. Join us for a tribute to Alice Wolf on September 9 at 2 pm. in the Lecture Hall at the Main Library.

      Are you interested in using The Hive? In this workshop you will learn about our makerspace, how to utilize the resources we offer and how to keep safe in The Hive. Find out what you need to get started as a maker in The Hive here. Completion of Hive Safety Training is the entry point to making, innovating, and collaborating in this space. Makers must also sign The Hive User Agreement and Waivers.

Join our watch party of the required pre-certification workshop with the Commonwealth of Mass Supplier Diversity Office.     • Glowforge 101: Creative Laser Cutting (Main)

      Main Library, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Learn how to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials using the Glowforge Pro laser cutter in this workshop. This two-hour workshop replaces the previous two-part Glowforge 101 offering; the content and length of this workshop and the two-part series are the same. You will start by utilizing the camera on the Glowforge to focus and scan your own custom images, properly select materials for your project, and fabricate your first design. You will create digital artwork for the Glowforge, and learn file formatting for production. Note: This is a badging course for laser cutting.     • International Overdose Awareness Day Memorial Service

      In partnership with City Hall and the Mayor’s Office, the Public Health Department will be memorializing Cambridge residents lost to overdose in 2022 to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD). Please join us on City Hall lawn on Thursday, August 31st at 3 p.m. for the IOAD event and help us both remember those we’ve lost and embrace our shared hope of recovery for people living with substance use disorder.

      Afro Fusion Dance with Bisi is an energetic class combining African dance and modern dance, in this class, we explore the similarities of different dance styles while adding our own flavor and expression, we will also explore the power of moving and breathing together.       Extended reality (XR) opens the door to worlds and experiences outside the everyday through virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality equipment. Test drive our Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality glasses, Structure Sensor 3D scanner, Merge headsets, and more. Registration is required. You must complete Hive Safety Training before registering for this workshop.
