City Manager's Message

Thursday, May 19, 2022

As someone who was born, raised, and has lived in Cambridge their entire life, I understand firsthand that our community’s racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity shapes our City and is what makes it a desirable and enriching place to live, work, and raise a family. In July, I will be retiring from the City of Cambridge after more than 45 years of service.

During most of my tenure with the City, I worked in the Finance Department, serving as Budget Director and Assistant City Manager for Finance before being appointed City Manager in 2016. As I approach my last day as City Manager, I want to recognize our incredible workforce.

Our employees are the greatest asset of this City. From our laborers to our administrators, each employee provides excellent service to our community, and their passion and dedication to public service are second to none. I want to thank each of you for your commitment and passion for serving our residents.

The efforts undertaken by our workforce over the past two years have demonstrated that every City employee plays an essential role in our ability to carry out our goals and positively impact our residents’ lives. I am forever grateful to our current employees and those I have had the privilege to work with over my career. There is no greater calling than public service, and I encourage you to consider a career with the City or volunteer to serve on one of our many boards and commissions. Your advocacy will ensure that Cambridge remains the best place to live, work, learn or raise a family.

Finally, I want to thank the Mayor and City Council for their leadership and for advocating for a financial plan that continues to match City policies and priorities while also being mindful of the impact on taxpayers.

Thank you for placing your trust and confidence in me to lead this great City.
