Expanding Advanced Life Support Services

Cambridge Fire Department (CFD) will hire eight firefighters in FY23 to expand the delivery of Advanced Life Support, (ALS) or Paramedic service, to the community. An ALS response often results in the responding unit being tied up for extended periods while transporting a person to the hospital. Careful analysis of the ALS systems revealed an opportunity to streamline the program to a more effective delivery model without negatively impacting vital fire suppression units in service.

The new positions will allow CFD to staff an additional two-person ALS Squad unit at the East Cambridge Firehouse.
