Cambridge to Host Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Meetings on October 25th

The City of Cambridge will be hosting two final public meetings for the latest updated draft to the city’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. Both meetings will occur on Wednesday, October 25. The first will be virtual at 12 p.m. and the second will be held in-person and virtual at 6 p.m. from the City Hall Annex, 2nd Floor Conference Room, at 344 Broadway in Cambridge. Each meeting will provide the community with opportunities to learn more about the latest draft to the updated Hazard Mitigation Plan and share their thoughts on it. Residents are encouraged to join for one or both meetings as their schedule allows.

Hazard Mitigation planning is a proactive effort to identify actions that can be taken to reduce the dangers to life and property from natural hazard events. The Cambridge Hazard Mitigation Plan assesses the potential impacts to the City from flooding, high winds, winter storms, brush fire, and geologic hazards. It outlines how Cambridge prepares for and responds to those hazards.

The updated Hazard Mitigation Plan was led by the City Steering Committee, a consultant team at Weston and Sampson, external stakeholders who participated in the Hazard Mitigation Planning Team, and input from Cambridge residents. With this updated plan, the City of Cambridge will be eligible to apply to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency for mitigation grants administered by FEMA, which will help Cambridge implement its resiliency and hazard mitigation goals
