The fire at 222 Third Street in East Cambridge was quickly and aggressively extinguished by firefighters

Shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday, January 21st, 2024, Box 1681 was transmitted for a fire at 222 Third Street in East Cambridge. The fire in the ceiling of floor 2 of a large, heavy-timber constructed, commercial building, the "American Twine Building," was quickly contained and extinguished by 25 firefghters who effected an aggressive and coordinated interior attack in this large building.

 

Engines 3, 5, and 2; Ladders 2 and 3; Squads 3 and 2; Rescue 1; and Division 1 worked at the fire.

On duty: Group 4

The tempearture at the time was 17 degrees wit a 12 mph wind.

 

Professional EMS was on scene for EMS standby.

Cambridge Police officers assisted on scene for traffic control & safety in the area, and to divert traffic from hose lines which had been stretched across streets.

Cambridge Inspectional Services representatives also responded.
