Roadway paving, sidewalk reconstruction, pedestrian ramp installations

As part of the River Street project, the City’s contractor P. Gioioso & Sons (PGS) will begin the next phase of full-depth roadway reconstruction and paving on or about June 1, 2026. This work is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete

As part of the Five-Year Street and Sidewalk Reconstruction Plan, Huron Ave, from Fresh Pond Place to Fresh Pond Parkway, is scheduled for reconstruction. This project will include paving, sidewalk improvements and utility installations. Cushing Plaza, located at Cushing Street and Huron Avenue, is scheduled for reconstruction to allow stormwater to infiltrate and provide enhanced biochar and compost soil for the new trees and garden plantings.

Project implementation for the Broadway Safety Improvement Project is moving ahead, and major installation activities will begin soon.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of upcoming street closures, construction, and traffic impacts in late August and early September for back-to-school, the Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian, and two other community events.

Fixing Sidewalks, Saving Trees ($100,000)

Through this project, we will add separated bike lanes and improve pedestrian crossings on Brattle Street between Mason Street and Mount Auburn Street.
