All residential buildings in Boston and Cambridge with more than 50 units or greater than 50,000 square feet will be required to annually report energy and water consumption data for the entire building, including that of residents, beginning in May 2015.

  • Understand requirements, applicability and timelines of the ordinances.
  • Find out what information you’ll need about your buildings and how to collect it.
  • Learn how local energy utility providers will help you access the energy data you need.

Ordinances in both cities designate the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s ENERGY STAR® PortfolioManager® online tool as the mechanism for compliance. This training seminar will show you how to enter information in PortfolioManager®, benchmark your building performance, and report your results to the city. The program will be presented by representatives from the City of Boston and City of Cambridge, the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program, National Grid and NSTAR. While the reporting process will require time and effort to complete, this training session will provide specific guidance so you can satisfy the requirements and avoid penalties for non-compliance.
