Notice of Public Meeting

The Community Development Department of the City of Cambridge will hold a public hearing on June 29, 2016 at 5:30 p.m., at 344 Broadway, Second Floor conference Room, Cambridge, Massachusetts to receive comments on the City’s draft community choice electricity aggregation plan.

On June 6, 2016 the Cambridge City Council voted to authorize to the City initiate the process of electric aggregation pursuant to General Laws c. 164, §134. Under a community choice electric aggregation program, a city chooses an electricity supplier on behalf of electricity customers within the city that have not chosen a supplier on their own. Customers that do not wish to participate in the program may opt out. Cambridge intends to use community choice aggregation to obtain a greener supply of electricity than is provided by Eversource, the electric distribution company serving the city.
The City has prepared a draft community choice aggregation plan describing the City’s goals and the operations of the program. The plan does not include any details about the type of electricity “product” the city will procure, the potential suppliers or the mechanism by which additional renewable energy will be procured. These details will be discussed at a public meeting at a later date.

Copies of the plan are available in the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, Cambridge, Massachusetts and at the Community Development Department, 344 Broadway. Copies of the plan are also available online. Questions regarding the plan may be addressed to Meghan Shaw at 617-349-5323, email mshaw@cambridgema.gov.

Any person wishing to comment on the draft plan may do so in person at the hearing on June 29 or by email to mshaw@cambridgema.gov. Comments must be received by July 13, 2016.
