Local Businesses Honored at Legacy Luncheon

Cambridge Legacy Business Luncheon

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, the City of Cambridge hosted the inaugural Cambridge Legacy Business Luncheon to celebrate some of the oldest business in Cambridge as part of National Small Business Week.

Eighteen local businesses, representing a variety of neighborhoods and specialties, were presented with awards recognizing their contribution to Cambridge's retail environment. Each of the businesses have been in operation 47 years or more - some for over a century. The following businesses were honored at the event:

  • Grolier Poetry Book Shop, established in 1927 
  • Cambridge Savings Bank, established in 1834
  • Paddy’s, established in 1934 
  • Keezer’s Classic Clothing, Lower Mass Ave, established in 1895 
  • Clothware, established in 1972 
  • Great Eastern Trading Company, established in 1969 
  • Irving House, established in 1945 
  • Brattle Square Florist, established in 1917
  • S&S Restaurant, established in 1919
  • Courthouse Fish Market and Seafood Restaurant, 1912
  • Leavitt and Pierce, established in 1883
  • Commonwealth Lock Company, established in 1938
  • Elite Barbershop, established in 1910 
  • Fresh Pond Market, established in 1922
  • Armando’s, established in 1971
  • John’s Barber, established in 1910
  • Adams Fireplace Shop, established in 1908
  • Kendall Flower Shop, established 1942 

Honorees were chosen according to the City's database and cross-referenced with historical records, state registries, and news articles. The City plans to host an annual Legacy Business Luncheon to recognize additional legacy businesses in Cambridge.
