Community Organizations

Cambridge is rich in community groups of all kinds—community centers, neighborhood associations, church groups, student groups, local chapters of state and national organizations, and local groups that tackle many community issues. Here are some that tackle climate issues directly:

  • Green Cambridge, works citywide on sustainability projects and policies.
  • Greenport is a Cambridgeport-based group that promotes community strategies for sustainable living.  They can be contacted at greenportlocal@gmail.com.
  • HEET, The Home Energy Efficiency Team, organizes free energy up-grade work parties that teach volunteers hand-on skills while making buildings more efficient and creating community.
  • The Green Streets Initiative promotes sustainable and healthy transportation, primarily through monthly walk/ride days.
  • The Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN) links local climate groups  throughout the state.
  • Mothers Out Front (Cambridge) are Cambridge mothers, grandmothers, and other caregivers working together to ensure a sustainable future for the generations ahead of us.
