The Cambridge Department of Transportation, or CDOT, (formerly known as the Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department) oversees public parking and traffic operations, including pavement markings, crosswalks and bicycle lanes, operation of traffic signals, traffic study reviews, and permitting street obstructions and street closings. The department also oversees the Resident Permit Program. Additionally, the Department of Transportation works with the Transportation Planning Division (formerly at Community Development) in planning, reviewing, and developing proposals to improve the City’s infrastructure and encourages walking, bicycling and using transit.

The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of multiple temporary street closures this weekend due to the Thai Market and the Cambridge Classic 5K.
Beginning with the 2027 permit season, the standard annual Resident Parking Permit (RPP) fee will increase from $25 to $75, one of several changes residents will see this season after a 2026 Cambridge City Council policy order.
The Cambridge Department of Transportation (CDOT) has formalized its approach to improving safety at higher crash intersections through the Intersection Safety Program. As part of the City’s Vision Zero effort to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes, CDOT has developed a data-driven process to identify and rank higher crash intersections, prioritize locations for improvements, and track and assess safety changes over time.
