4-1-25 Special Update: On April 1, 2025, the Traffic, Parking, + Transportation Department became the Department of Transportation, merging with the Community Development Department’s Transportation Planning Division . This reorganization will expand cross-departmental collaboration and allow the City to pursue new opportunities to improve safety and mobility for all.

The Department of Transportation (formerly known as the Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department) oversees public parking and traffic operations, including pavement markings, crosswalks and bicycle lanes, operation of traffic signals, traffic study reviews, and permitting street obstructions and street closings. The department also oversees the Resident Permit Program. Additionally, the Department of Transportation works with the Transportation Planning Division (formerly at Community Development) in planning, reviewing, and developing proposals to improve the City’s infrastructure and encourages walking, bicycling and using transit.

Closure in place nightly Sunday, March 15 and Monday, March 16 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
The City of Cambridge is notifying residents, businesses, and visitors of street closures and travel impacts on Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. due to the Spring Classic 5K.
